Adoptive Personality by Cassandra Scearce

I was lucky enough to be able to read this book.  I was able to have exchanges with the author, whom by the way is an amazing supportive person.  I’ve read a few reviews, not too many since I didn’t want to see any spoilers.  But I knew I had to see what this was all about.

Without giving much away, we’re introduced to Eve, whose had a horrid time in her life, and always wanted what every kid wants.  To be in a loving family home with 2 doting parents.  Eve unfortunately didn’t get that, and instead suffered daily through abuse, that was physically, emotionally and sexually.  Eve finally gets her ‘fuck this’ courage and does the unspeakable.  Frankly I was surprised it took her that long to get the courage.

Eve is then bounced around a couple of foster homes, before deciding that she’s the only one that can really take care of herself, and that she did.  Eve is extremely smart, but Eve is also extremely cocky which a trait I was fond of isn’t.  The description of the abuse was fantastic, and only made this book even darker.

You have to have an open mind reading this book. You have to take the time and think about this book from her current state of mind, and decide for yourself is Eve taking retaliation too far, and should she go deeper?  This book isn’t for the faint at heart.  If you’re wanting a happy ever after, you can find that book elsewhere.  But if you’re wanting psychosomatic, dark, twisted, and sex.  Then I would go for this book.
